Off-Duty Chicago Police Officer Fires Shots at Robber Who Targeted Him

Chicago has sadly been in the news for a good long while now with its crime rate and the number of shootings outpacing most of the other major cities in the United States. Another person was about to be a statistic over this past weekend, but instead, he fought back.

The incident occurred on Friday night, December 1st in the 10100 block of South Bell in Chicago when the offender walked up to an off-duty Chicago police officer and, while armed with a gun, attempted to rob the man. The officer, armed himself was not about to simply allow himself to be robbed so he pulled out his own personal defensive firearm and a shootout followed.

It is unknown at this time if the officer hit the robber during the shooting, but it did cause the thief to run off into the night in an attempt to escape the hail of death that was aimed at him.

Reports have not indicated whether the officer was at all injured in the shooting, but as of the time of writing this article, he had not been administered to a local medical facility, indicating that the officer was safe and sound.

The thief on the other hand while perhaps not physically injured certainly has his head in a terrified space as following the shooting and his running off, the man was spotted at a nearby Shell Gas Station attempting to steal an automobile.

The entirety of Friday night was devoted to a manhunt to find this thief, but as of the writing of this article, despite major police presence and helicopters called to look for this man, he remains on the loose. Though, Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson has stated that additional resources will be sent to the 22nd District to attempt to curb incidents like Friday night’s and other recent armed robberies in the neighborhood. As well as to catch this criminal.

Thankfully though this criminal had a lack of success thanks to armed and well-trained citizens on Friday. Make sure, if you live in the area and are armed yourself that you don’t allow this individual or any others that would do you harm the satisfaction of getting away with their disgusting crimes.

What do you think of this story? How much training do you think you’d have to go through to be able to handle what this officer did? Let us know in the comments below.
