A Moline woman, sitting in her car was forced to come face to face with one of the greatest horrors she could imagine in the form of an armed kidnapper, luckily this citizen was armed herself or this story may have had a very different ending.
On October 8th, a woman (whose name has not been released to the public for her safety) was sitting in her car behind the SouthPark Mall in the 4500 block of 27th St. in Moline when suddenly and without warning, a 61-year-old man later identified as Floyd May of Moline, forced his way into her car while holding a knife.
The woman was obviously a fighter from the start because at this moment according to police report, the woman was already starting a big struggle with May. In the midst of this altercation, the woman received a gash to her arm from May’s blade and after seeing the blood and perhaps knowing where this fight was going, the woman momentarily surrendered to May.
That’s when things went from bad to worse for the woman, and she could smell something terrible in the air.
After the altercation, he told her to drive somewhere private out in the county. The woman, in no place to argue at the moment, did what May told her to do and drove.
However, upon reaching May’s destination the woman knew just how much danger she was in and realized that this could, in fact, be her life on the line, so she decided to make a move that she didn’t feel necessary until just then.
The woman knew that it was time to grab her concealed firearm and end this show one way or another. SO with all of her strength she did just that. The adrenaline and fear running through her head must have been tremendous, but she remained calm enough to grab the gun and upon noticing it, Floyd May went from being in charge to being on the run as he bolted out of the woman’s car.
Quickly the woman abandoned the escaping kidnapper and drove herself to the hospital for the wound on her arm. There she spoke to police who, thanks to the information obtained by this woman, were able to capture Floyd May shortly thereafter.
The woman is expected to make a full recovery from her knife wound and as for Floyd May, he is being charged with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery with a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and aggravated assault and is currently being held in the Rock Island County Jail.
What do you think of this story? Do you think the woman did the right thing by waiting so long to pull her firearm or do you think it was a mistake to be so patient? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
